Missing Spirituality

I have been missing a spiritual connection for a while. It’s been a few years. I have tried a few methods to connect with my spirituality in a community setting. I tried going to a Baptist church for a few months and it was great. It fed my need for a spiritual community. I even brought my kids and other family. Things were going very well until the sermon that shamed me for not giving 10% of my income. I was mortified. I was fine with giving. I know it takes money to run a church and all of its programs and am ready and willing to always give, but I will not be shamed or guilted into it. In fact, I went to the Baptist church because it was so different from the Catholic church I grew up in where shame and guilt were the daily take-away.

Needless to say, that was my last visit to this church. Then I started going to a metaphysical center, and yes we were pitched all kinds of things. I really liked it, especially the guided meditations. Again, I took my family there and participated in as many things as I could so I could support the center financially. It was not well funded and closed after a couple of years. It also lacked a leader with a strong understanding of the bible and other spiritual works that we could dissect and learn from.

So here I am a few years later and now I am looking into Unity church. There is one that seems like it may be a fit for me and the fam. I will be attending this week or Sunday for a service. I really hope it has the elements I am looking for so I can participate and share with my family:

1. A strong sense of community that is inclusive of all
2. A strong pastor/leader who can teach and help me discover answers to my questions about faith
3. Music to worship through
4. A youth group or ministry to involve my youngest.

Stay tuned!
